National Caramel Popcorn Day - April 6th.

Each year on April 6th, National Caramel Popcorn Day conjures up memories of fairs, sporting events and fun snacking.  For many people, this chewy or crunchy caramel popcorn treat is an all-time favorite.  Combining popcorn and molasses began in the early 1800s.  However, caramel was prevalent as well, and with the production of Cracker Jack, the popularity was ever increasing.  Here's a recipe for caramel sauce that you can mix with your freshly popped, popcorn!!

1/2 cup of packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons of cornstarch

1/2 cup light corn syrup

1/4 cup half and half cream or evaporated milk

1/4 cup butter, cubed

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 egg, lightly beaten
